Help Needed in Chesterfield & North East Derbyshire Survey

We know about the community groups that operate and the good work that you all do.  Sadly, we understand that many of you have had to close down due to the Coronavirus crisis.

We are now mapping the help that is available in your residential area.

However, there are still people needing help, mainly for shopping, collecting prescriptions, someone to talk to; and they could be your neighbours.

Are you doing this in your local area or do you know of any people who have got together and are offering neighbourly support to people in need?

We would be grateful if you could complete this survey so that you can be added to the list of help in Chesterfield & North East Derbyshire.

Governance Advice & Updates

Consider deferring pension contributions, charities advised

Charities should consider deferring pension contributions to preserve short-term funds, a new report suggests.  Defined Benefit Pension Funding in the Charitable Sector, published by the pensions consultancy Hymans Robertson, says the Covid-19 pandemic has placed charities under significant financial strain, so they need to conserve cash.

The report advises that charities consider deferring pension contributions to save money in the short term. “The speed and scale of the Covid-19 crisis has had a severe financial impact on many charities,” it says.

“Cash conservation is therefore crucial and, understandably, this means some charities are looking to defer pension contributions.”

It says the Pensions Regulator has said that suspending pension contributions might be appropriate in some circumstances.

How COVID-19 may change our views on job substitution for ever

Rob Jackson discusses job substitution - a thorny, complex and emotive issue that provokes strong views. The term ‘job substitution’ itself makes things worse, implying that one volunteer can substitute for one employee, something that, in reality, is both impractical and unrealistic. Far better terms to use are job displacement and job replacement.

Sky Racial Injustice Fund

Sky has pledged to develop ‘significant’ new content plans to raise awareness, beginning with the decision to air documentary Eight Minutes and 46 Seconds: the Killing of George Floyd simultaneously across Sky 1, Sky Documentaries, Sky Witness and Sky Atlantic on 15 June.
