Help Needed in Chesterfield & North East Derbyshire Survey

We know about the community groups that operate and the good work that you all do.  Sadly, we understand that many of you have had to close down due to the Coronavirus crisis.

We are now mapping the help that is available in your residential area.

However, there are still people needing help, mainly for shopping, collecting prescriptions, someone to talk to; and they could be your neighbours.

Are you doing this in your local area or do you know of any people who have got together and are offering neighbourly support to people in need?

We would be grateful if you could complete this survey so that you can be added to the list of help in Chesterfield & North East Derbyshire.

Russell Cooke - Latest Charity Law Updates

The new Corporate Insolvency and Governance Act: what does it mean for charities and social enterprises?

The Corporate Insolvency and Governance Act 2020 introduces some important new rules. These rules are relevant to you if you:

  • are a company in financial difficulties;
  • have dealings with a company facing insolvency, for example a contractual relationship; or
  • are a company, CIO, friendly, co-operative or community benefit society that needs to hold a general meeting or AGM.

Places of worship: do you have a right to buy your building?

Under the Places of Worship (Enfranchisement) Act 1920, the leasehold owner of a building used as a place of worship has, in certain circumstances, a right to buy the freehold of that building. Traditionally, the criteria under the Act have been interpreted narrowly, with the result being that in practice few leaseholders have been able to benefit from the right. A High Court decision in May 2020 has potentially changed this, by applying a broader interpretation of one of the key qualifying criteria. Faith charities with leasehold property might wish to look into whether the right to buy might apply to them.
