Help Needed in Chesterfield & North East Derbyshire Survey

We know about the community groups that operate and the good work that you all do.  Sadly, we understand that many of you have had to close down due to the Coronavirus crisis.

We are now mapping the help that is available in your residential area.

However, there are still people needing help, mainly for shopping, collecting prescriptions, someone to talk to; and they could be your neighbours.

Are you doing this in your local area or do you know of any people who have got together and are offering neighbourly support to people in need?

We would be grateful if you could complete this survey so that you can be added to the list of help in Chesterfield & North East Derbyshire.

Survey findings: Covid-19 impact on charities

Over the weekend, you might have heard Minister for Civil Society, Baroness Barran, fielding questions on what the government is doing to support charities at this time. Listen here from 7.50:45.

The item was in response to the results from our first monthly Voluntary Sector Impact Barometer, developed in partnership with Nottingham Trent University, Sheffield Hallam University and funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.

Here's a quick summary of the findings:

  • Finance: 2 in 5 (39%) voluntary organisations report that their financial position had deteriorated in the last month.
  • Demand for services: More than half (56%) of respondents expect demand for their services to increase over the next month.
  • Safety: 60% of organisations said that Covid-19 related safety measures have increased their operating costs.
  • Impact on work: 8 out of 10 (80%) anticipate Covid-19 to negatively impact the delivery of their planned objectives over the next 12 months.
  • Risk of closure: 1 in 10 (10%) organisations expect they are likely to have stopped operating by this time next year.
  • Adaptability: 92% of organisations report an increase in delivering their services online.

Corporate Insolvency and Governance Act 2020

In June 2020 the Corporate Insolvency and Governance Act 2020 (“CIGA”) made some temporary changes to insolvency and corporate governance law. New secondary legislation means many of these changes will now continue until either December or the New Year. Companies and charities facing financial difficulty, or finding it hard to hold members’ meetings, may be able to take advantage of the continuing flexibility.
