Help Needed in Chesterfield & North East Derbyshire Survey

We know about the community groups that operate and the good work that you all do.  Sadly, we understand that many of you have had to close down due to the Coronavirus crisis.

We are now mapping the help that is available in your residential area.

However, there are still people needing help, mainly for shopping, collecting prescriptions, someone to talk to; and they could be your neighbours.

Are you doing this in your local area or do you know of any people who have got together and are offering neighbourly support to people in need?

We would be grateful if you could complete this survey so that you can be added to the list of help in Chesterfield & North East Derbyshire.

What a year it has been, front and centre to our response have been our Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs).

Monday 23 November we have opened recruitment in to this vital role for Derbyshire police.

Kerry Wallington-Waite is one of our PCSO Supervisors and explains: “I’d always liked the idea of working in the community, making a difference and solving problems. It’s very interesting work and I’ve dealt with everything from abandoned cars to neighbour issues, school talks to crime prevention events and foot patrols.

“Derbyshire Constabulary really invests in its people through training and regular check-ins with your manager. There are also numerous staff networks available to offer advice and support too, plus they are family friendly regarding work life balance, I really feel we are cared about.”

If you are looking for a rewarding, exciting and challenging  career then visit https://careers.derbyshire.police.uk/what-you-could-be-doing/police-constable-support-officers to learn more.

Still undecided?

Watch out over the next few weeks, as we introduce you to some of the people performing this role, as they explain the benefits and enjoyment that they get serving the community

We are currently looking for young people to join MH:2K – a youth-led project addressing mental health. MH:2K empowers 14-25 year olds to:

Identify the mental health issues that they see as most important;

Engage their peers in discussing and exploring these topics;

Work with key local decision-makers to make recommendations for change.

MH:2K is delivered by Leaders Unlocked in association with Derby City Council, Derbyshire County Council, and NHS Derby and Derbyshire CCGs. The project is an integral part of the ongoing work to improve children’s emotional and mental health in the region. Please visit: www.leaders-unlocked.org

MH:2K is aimed at young people aged 14-25, with an interest in mental health who want to make a difference to their community.  We’re seeking a diverse group of young people with different life experiences to take part, including those who;

Themselves/ friends or family have experienced mental health difficulties

Are often underrepresented e.g. young carers, those in the care system, LGBTQ+, BAME young people, LLDD.

This is a brilliant opportunity for young people to gain new knowledge, skills and experience. Those who join the MH:2K team will play an important role as ‘Citizen Researchers’ in helping to design and run workshops to engage other young people.

We welcome and encourage all to apply. Please contact anna@leaders-unlocked.org if you have any questions about the application process. Application attached and click here for Guidance notesDeadline Friday 27th November 2020.
